Symptoms

Typical symptoms include sharp pain during or after bowel movements and bleeding. Itching and discomfort around the anus may also occur.
If constipation occurs repeatedly, the fissure may reopen, causing symptoms to return and delaying the healing process.
If you notice pus-like discharge or persistent moisture around the anus that is unrelated to bowel movements, it is important to see a doctor for an examination.

Examination and Diagnosis

The appointment begins with a discussion of your symptoms and medical history. The doctor then examines the area around the anus and, if necessary and feasible, performs a proctoscopic examination.
The examination is carried out gently, taking your comfort and well-being into account.

Treatment Methods

At Dr. Maurins Clinic, a new method is used to treat anal fissures with a specially designed LOMA laser device patented in Germany.
A chronic anal fissure may fail to heal due to improperly formed scar tissue. The aim of the treatment is to remove this scar tissue using a laser, allowing the tissue to regenerate and the wound to heal.
This method is considerably less invasive than traditional surgical treatments, such as cutting the anal sphincter muscle (sphincterotomy) or surgically removing the fissure (fissurectomy), which are performed using a scalpel or electrocautery.
One of the main potential complications of sphincterotomy is faecal incontinence (loss of bowel control), which can be difficult to treat. Traditional fissurectomy, on the other hand, is often associated with significant postoperative pain.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
An anal fissure is a small tear in the lining of the anal canal. It often develops after passing hard stools or due to constipation, causing sharp pain during or after bowel movements, as well as bleeding.
Yes. If constipation occurs repeatedly, the fissure may reopen, prolonging the healing process. Over time, it may develop into a chronic anal fissure which may require surgical treatment in some cases.
You should see a proctologist if you experience bleeding after bowel movements, pain or discomfort around the anus, or recurring symptoms. Timely examination helps identify the underlying cause, as similar symptoms may also indicate other medical conditions.
The cost of laser surgery for an anal fissure starts from €900. A consultation and examination with a proctologist are required before treatment.
The doctor determines the most suitable treatment method after the examination, and the total cost depends on the chosen method and the extent of the condition.
Insurance coverage for the surgery must be approved in advance by your insurance provider, with a letter of guarantee. Please refer to our price list for current prices.
